The super short version is that I grew up a skinny-fat, multi-sport athlete.
Blessed with horrible muscle building genetics – thanks, Mom and Dad! – I struggled to gain lean muscle mass that would help me outrun or outmuscle bigger and stronger guys on the field...

Yup, that was me... despite following all the conventional fitness dogma:
Eat six meals a day, every 2-3 hours...
Split the body in parts and blast your muscles into oblivion with two-hour workouts...
Take a boatload of ineffective supplements to ensure you have the most expensive pee in town...
That and all the other nonsense peddled in muscle magazines and on internet message boards.
(This was in the early 2000s before social media existed... it's 100x worse today.)
I wasted years of my life getting nowhere!
In college, I decided to get this part of my life handled for good.
What started as a hobby quickly turned into a blend between fascination and obsession as I became more and more enthralled with lifting weights, getting stronger, and looking great naked.
Already during my college business studies, I began training people on the side to gain practical experience in addition to the stacks of fitness books I was reading.
Then, in 2011, I dropped out in my last semester to work full-time as a personal trainer.
Coming from a sports background, I soon realized working with the general population didn't satisfy me...
I wanted to train competitive athletes!
Guys who had skill but were small/slow/weak...
Guys who could gain an edge by training the right way off the field...
Just like me a few years ago.
So in the summer of 2014, I packed my bags and headed over to the US where I interned under two great NHL strength coaches – Ben Prentiss (now with the New York Rangers) and Kevin Neeld (Boston Bruins).
I got the chance to watch and learn how Stanley Cup champs, Conn Smythe Trophy winners (playoffs MVP), and Olympic medalists train off the ice.
